As part of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, the Four-Year Undergraduate Programme (FYUGP) at our college offers students the opportunity to explore and excel in additional languages, including Malayalam, Hindi and Arabic. The Department of Additional Languages plays a vital role in enhancing students’ linguistic abilities, cultural awareness and communicative competence.
Under the FYUGP framework, students can choose one of these languages as part of their Multidisciplinary, Ability Enhancement or Minor/Skill-based courses. The curriculum is thoughtfully designed to promote a deeper understanding of language structure, literature and cultural nuances, while also developing practical skills in translation, creative writing and communication.
The department ensures a learner-centric and inclusive approach, combining traditional pedagogy with modern techniques. Regular assessments, interactive learning and co-curricular activities like literary clubs and language days enrich the academic experience.
By learning an additional language, students gain a valuable edge in various fields such as education, civil services, media, tourism and international relations. The FYUGP structure allows students to tailor their language learning journey based on their interests and career aspirations and opportunities for Honours with research in the final year.
